That AuDHD Teacher
AuDHD, teaching, neurodivergence, and figuring it out along the way.
Welcome to That AuDHD Teacher. I’m Emily, an early childhood teacher from Aotearoa New Zealand, and I’m autistic and ADHD.
I started That AuDHD Teacher to create a space for honest conversations about what it can actually be like to be AuDHD, particularly when you’re also working in education.
This isn’t a space where I have all the answers.
It’s a space for sharing experiences, learning, asking questions and making sense of the things that sometimes don’t make sense until you have the words for them.
Hi, I’m Emily
For a long time, I didn’t know I was autistic or ADHD. I was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD at 28 years old.
Looking back, those diagnoses helped me understand so many experiences that I’d previously just thought were me.
The exhaustion. The overwhelm. The masking. The executive functioning struggles. The emotional intensity. The things I could do incredibly well, and the things that seemed inexplicably difficult.
And because I’m also a teacher, I’ve become particularly interested in what AuDHD can look like in education.
How does neurodivergence affect the way we experience teaching? Why can some parts of the job feel completely natural while others leave us absolutely exhausted? What happens when the strategies we’ve used to cope for years stop working? And what does it look like to build a career that works with our brains rather than constantly against them?
These are some of the questions I’m exploring here.
🎙️ The That AuDHD Teacher Podcast
The That AuDHD Teacher podcast is where I talk about AuDHD, late diagnosis, teaching and all of the things I’ve been learning along the way. Some episodes are personal. Some are educational. Some are a mixture of both.
We’ll talk about things like:
- AuDHD
- Masking
- Burnout
- Executive functioning
- RSD
- Sensory overwhelm
- Late diagnosis
- Autism and ADHD assessments
- Teaching while neurodivergent
If you’ve ever wondered “Is it just me?”, you’re in the right place.
